Circular Economy is an application of Biomimicry at a systems level

Circular economy is a framework for an economy that is restorative and regenerative by design, that practices a continual use of resources with no waste and pollution.

Nature is the example of such a system, where elegant solutions have evolved over the past 3.8 billion years. Everything is connected: all living things depend on resources, webs of relationships, and ecosystem services.

The latter is true for our built environment as well. It is similarly interwoven and complex. No business, product, service, or structure exists in isolation, each is a part of systems of material, resources and energy flows, networks of people, relationships and information. Circular Economy is a framework for a systems view on our built environment.

Nature is the system that already successfully operates without creating waste, where waste of one organism is the resource for another and entire eco-systems run on sunlight. What better example than this, when moving from a linear economy to a sustainable circular model?

Therefore we use the Biomimicry and Circular Economy Framework together, for an approach that learns from existing successful solutions in nature, paired with tools for a deep understanding of our human-built systems, to develop solutions that harmonise our built and natural environment. After all, our built and natural environment as just as interconnected together!
